DALLAS, TX.- The Dallas Art Fair and the Dallas Museum of Art today announced that ten artworks from this year’s fair will be added to the museum’s permanent collection. The acquisitions were funded by the sixth Dallas Art Fair Foundation Acquisition Program, an annual gift from the Dallas Art Fair Foundation that places works from the fair into the DMA’s collection.
Yesterday, the DMA’s Hoffman Family Senior Curator of Contemporary Art Dr. Anna Katherine Brodbeck, Lupe Murchison Curator of Contemporary Art Dr. Vivian Li, Interim Chief Curator and The Barbara Thomas Lemmon Senior Curator of European Art Dr. Nicole R. Myers, and a group of fund donors previewed the fair, selecting artworks by the following ten artists for the museum’s collection: Sarah Awad, Xxavier Edward Carter, Kohshin Finley, Jessie Homer French, Athena LaTocha, Kaloki Nyamai, Krzysztof Strzelecki, Benjamin Styer, Keer Tanchak, and Evita Tezeno.
“The DAF Foundation Acquisition Program allows us to be responsive to what is animating contemporary art today: from concerns for the environment to the complexities of how we see ourselves and others, from the need to rework art history or to express love and joy,” says Dr. Anna Katherine Brodbeck. “Speaking to the great diversity of art the Fair has to offer, today we had the opportunity to acquire works from artists aged 23 to 82, working in painting, ceramics, and mix media on paper, hailing from Poland to Kenya to our home city of Dallas.”
The program is an annual initiative that encourages and builds a strong relationship between the Dallas Museum of Art, the Dallas Art Fair, and the fair’s participating galleries. The Dallas Art Fair Foundation Acquisition Program has funded $675,000 for the Dallas Museum of Art’s permanent collection to date, including this year’s grant of $125,000.
“This year we really feel that the quality of work at the fair has gone above and beyond—so much so that it was hard for the group to make a final decision. I am thrilled for the selected galleries and their artists, and of course what this means for their relationship with the DMA. Our fund continues to strengthen our ties with the museum, and meaningfully connect our galleries with its curators,” says Kelly Cornell, Dallas Art Fair Director.
The 2022 donors are Jim Blake, Zoe Bonnette, Susan and Shawn Bonsell, Sheryl and Geoff Green, Rhonda and Fraser Marcus, Cliff Risman, David and Linda Rogers, Gowri and Alex Sharma, Marlene and John Sughrue, Teresa Tsai, The Dallas Art Fair Foundation, and a number of anonymous donors.
