As the summer and pandemic wage on, representatives for the art fair say that it’s TBD as to whether the rescheduled event will happen. Considering the thousands of new infections confirmed in the last week, the future doesn’t look bright.
If other major events rescheduled for fall, like Coachella and Austin City Limits, are any indication, it’s likely to be canceled for a second time. For the time being, anyway, the Dallas Art Fair is focusing on expanding its digital presence through Culture Place.
“Culture Place will enable dealers to connect with our audience of collectors on an ongoing basis, to engage more deeply in conversations about art in today’s world, and to facilitate the sale of art when the opportunity for physical engagement has evaporated,” said John Sughrue, Culture Place, Inc. Founder and Dallas Art Fair, LLC Chairman , in a statement.
The digital version of the art fair that took place in April resulted in nearly $3 million in sales for participating galleries over the 10-day period. With Culture Place, the Dallas Art Fair will be able to sell works from local and regional galleries through its own platform on a rolling basis.
Invited galleries refresh their artworks every 60 days. The focus is on Texas galleries, but they’re open to accepting exhibitors from neighboring states. Galleries do not have to have participated in a past iteration of the Dallas Art Fair to be invited to Culture Place.
At the moment, there are about 20 participating galleries with works on the market, including local spots 12.26, Cris Worley Fine Arts, Conduit Gallery, Galleri Urbane, and others. You can explore the new Culture Place website here.
